it's st valentine's day this wednesday

ya know? i expect all attached and happily married couples to know that having planned in advance for this big event like any other anniversaries and birthdays...all singles should mark this day too because it's a day when we all hurry home lest we get sick from watching all the lovebirds roam around town [read: women with bouquets of flowers in their arms and a smile on their face / couples where women have bouquets of flowers in their arms..besides their bfs and a smile on their face]

anyway i'm aware of how cynical i can be but the point here is not how depressing it is to celebrate love alone. i had lunch with my boss the other day and he mentioned that his wife tried to matchmake me with her colleague who is btw a trader and a 35 year old divorced man. i nearly choked on my mee sua. there's a couple of reasons why i choked even tho' it may be extremely difficult to have something like mee sua stuck in your throat.
1. even my parents don't do stuff like that to me. ok andrew said i had to start somewhere given that i'm not actively looking myself.

2. a 35 year old? what do we have in common or talk about? golf and the stock market?

3. look i'm not prejudiced or anything but divorced? you can call me conservative but there's still a stigma attached to this term...dear dear novie since when did you plummet to a new low this fast?
alright. that's fine coz i have well-meaning frens who were prob 红娘s their previous lives too. so i asked my boss what was the guy's response. apparently he said that someone else is trying to fix him up with a 23 year old!! i choked the second time lor...
so i have a theory. remember when you were in school and notwithstanding the fact that you were once freshman. but try to recall the moment you reach year 3 or 4 & as girls you'd always watch in envy when the new batch of freshman arrive. they are like the 'fresh catch of the day' and sooner than you could say 'blimey' the senior girls become known as the 'stale catch' because guys in school would be more interested in becoming friends with the newbies than to talk to you. sadly it only hit me recently that this doesn't end once you get out of school and my life is ruined because of an age-old sexist perception that older guys should date younger women.

if you look at the above example so eerily similar to my real-life scenario but seriously it's not, the lower percentile represents the 'freshmen' while those aged 28 and above are considered the 'seniors'. this essentially means that as you move up the ladder you not only have to compete with your peers, you'd have to jostle with the younger lower percentile [read: considerably the Y generation who are more IN tho' weird fashion sense at times *what is IT with showing ye bum cheeks??* more shapely since things have not started to sag for them more kawaii because they KNOW how to act cute more perfect skin since wrinkles are not an issue yet. ditto.] and fight with the older upper percentile [read: considerably the more mature generation who sport hermes bags since their spending power is much more than moi who are confident since their spending power is much more than moi who are cosmopolitan *in terms of social skills* since their spending power is much more than moi]. in statistics terms:
"the probability of a 35 yr old guy choosing the lower percentile over the upper percentile is likely to be 100%"
simply because youth is on their side and of coz unless the guy can match the spending power of the upper percentile group so that such women won't get him down. yes it gets more depressing. you must realise your position gets more precarious when you move up the ladder and once anyone reaches the top let's say 35 years of age you would have to compete wholly with the lower percentile group [aged 23-34] who has all kinds of variable factors acting in their favour. so this sorta skews the distribution figure again on the number of single available women out there whom guys want to date. IMOHO the upper percentile group will then become defunct because when you're ongoing to 40 years of age you're not likely to be finding a partner to settle down liao. status quo this group will most likely self-destruct and not pose as a threat in the eyes of the chinese society.

oh boy i am SO getting crankier nowadays.（*^。^人^。^* ）note: a shoutout to jojo who said guys are only for the companionship and sperms!! where is the love? T_T
